IDE extension and developer workflows

How developer users connect Kaidera workflows to their IDE, project files, and selected-code questions.

Public draft for dev reviewLast verified 2026-05-22

Created from Phase 2 docs inventory and IDE extension planning notes.

Who this is for

The IDE extension is for developer users who need Kaidera support while working close to code or project files. It is not required for every business user.

What it does

The extension should help users authenticate, ask questions from the IDE, inspect project context, browse relevant files where allowed, and route selected-code questions back into Kaidera workflows.

Authentication

Supported authentication can include device flow or personal access token patterns depending on the customer configuration. Users should follow the approved organisation process rather than sharing tokens in project notes.

Sidebar chat

Sidebar chat should help a developer ask project-aware questions without leaving the IDE. It should stay connected to the current project boundary and approved model/provider settings.

Ask from selected code

A selected-code workflow lets the user ask for explanation, risk review, documentation help, or next-step guidance based on a specific code selection.

FileVault and project files

Where supported, the extension should help users understand project files or FileVault context without breaking the customer access boundary.

What to avoid

Do not paste credentials, private customer data, or unrelated code into an IDE prompt. Use approved project context and follow organisation security expectations.

What can go wrong

Common issues include sign-in failure, expired tokens, missing project access, unsupported IDE versions, or asking the extension to work outside the configured project boundary.
